Fast Track to LAME!

By Joe Dunn

Here we are in the midst of a new racing season and SPEEDTV has pulled out all the stoppers. But perhaps they have pulled just one too many as long time race fans tuned into 2010 to find that This Week In NASCAR, a weekly staple is gone. It seems that the powers to be at SPEEDTV made the decision that this long time popular show was just not connecting to the race fans.

As we all awaited the highly touted replacement, billed as Michael Waltrip’s dream show, Fast Track to Fame, the fans could only wonder. Well Monday night came and the Fast Track to Fame made it’s maiden voyage across America’s airwaves. As quickly as they got the first act on the stage, the fans began to cringe. Good old Michael raves about the ‘old guy with the spoons’, but the spoons were drowned out by the off key singer.

As the show progressed, it sadly failed to improve, but instead went steadily down hill. A simple read of some of the tweets on Twitter surely gave the view of NASCAR fan’s and their reaction to the show. “This fast track to fame is trying my patience, was looking for speed, it lacks that. 1 & out” “why dear God why? At least American Idol has produced something. Other than total train wrecks, what have they done” These were just a few, they get better as the show progressed … “some acts were ok, but was looking for the connection to racing. Last time I will watch it” …This is just a sampling, there were hundreds of tweets condemning the show.

I sat through the entire show, hoping that the real talent would be the one up next, maybe they are saving that lone act for the last show. This show is a disaster in the making, it is an insult to the real NASCAR fans. I have liked SPEED for many years as they have progressed from weak to strong and even stronger in the programming. Like many of the fans, I looked forward to 2010 and SPEED continuing to improve on their format and content, but alas, the balloon has popped and Fast track to Fame has disaster written all over it.

It’s time for SPEED to wake up, and get back to actual racing shows for the race fans. Save your network and scrap this show before it’s too late. One comment that really hit the nail on the head came from Twitter member JoshuaBrown18 “not too late to pull a dream sequence on us. Bring TWIN back next week with Biff, MW, Chad and Steve and this never happened.” That pretty well sums it up folks, for those who watched the show, let SPEED know how you feel about this one by going to http://www.speedtv.com/feedback/ and tell them what you think.

Yep, that was me. What ever happend to all racing/nascar racing on SPEED. that channel has no grip/idea of where it is at to where they used to be, how sad that is.

David Hill may be out of touch w/what real racing fans really love and want to watch.

Uh, did someone mention Fast Track to Lame? Waltrip hits another fowl.

I am wondering what this show has to do with racing, other than being taped at the track... Very lame show - I don't know what SPEED was thinking, or not thinking, but this replaced TWIN... UNBELIEVABLE - as Lous said, one and done for me....

Speed needs to show more of the regional racing series instead of these ridiculouls shows like "Pinks" etc. Do people really watch those shows? Tape delay the regional races and show them in the evenings during the week when there is no nascar programming. Makes too much sense though I guess.

I didn't think twice 'bout NOT watching it, I don't watch lame talent shows. But I have been echoing the 'what the heck does this have to do with racing' crowd.

The answer- NOTHING.

This show is on the Fast Track to... FAIL! (of epic proportions)

I didn't even watch the whole show. Pity-full, just pity-full. Of course, this was only the first show, and I'm guessing it was representative of the LV talent, but if it doesn't improve (and soon)with better shows from other venue's, Speed's Gong Show needs to be called Speed's gone show. But, maybe we are throwing the baby out with the bathwater and should wait and see what Atlanta and Bristol have to offer.

Start and Park ring any bells.

Come on SPEED bring back TWIN. Also get ride of Jimmy Spenser's show. We need more current driver and crew talk shows.

I've got a much better idea!!!

Why don't they BURY Michael Wall-drip. He, alone, is as lame as the show!

I have full faith in the Fox/Speed execs.. This show is so _ _ _ _ bad that it will undoubtedly run forever.
How many years was The Gong Show on ? All I could think of while watching Off track to fame was "Where's the gong" ?

Let's all just Thank Showtime for picking up Inside Nascar and streaming it free online for all those without SHO

For us poor saps, who watch to the end and the previews of what's to come; there seems to be another episode taped at Las Vegas because they already have previews when we haven't been back east. Plus, you can clearly see 'Las Vegas' on the stage. So, next week will have more of the same.
Plus, the juggling attention hog (substitute, if you wish) couldn't make it on America's Got Talent and now has failed twice. Maybe, if the eye candy (his wife) juggled or jiggled with him in the background...maybe?

YES!!! We need CURRENT drivers and crew chiefs. No has-beens and never-was. No cheerleaders for NASCAR; we're already fans. No yes-men to the powers-that-be, we believe what we believe about whether the officials/governing body are right or wrong on every issue. There are at least 3 crew chiefs that I want to hear over Spencer or Waltrip (Doug, Booty and/or Chad) and many drivers (including the Biff) How about Speed or Montoya? They'll speak they're minds. Get some fresh meat.
