NASCAR Truck and Nationwide busy as Cup is off

By Joe Dunn

It seems like just a couple of weeks ago that the NASCAR teams were off.  Oh, they were?  Well, the Cup guys are off again, but this weekend will be a double header for the Camping World Truck and Nationwide teams, as they head to Nashville, TN.
This will be the first time for two of NASCAR’s top 3 to be at the track together, an event that resulted from the closing of Memphis Motorsports Park last fall.  Owner Dover Motorsports, not wanting to lose the NCWTS and NNS events held at MMP took advantage of their other track Nashville Superspeedway and Gateway Speedway and moved the MMP dates. The result of the moves gives Gateway two NNS and one NCWTS events, while Nashville gets two of each.
Two drivers looking forward to this weekend are Ricky Carmichael, in the No. 4 Monster Energy Drink Chevrolet, who is coming off a top 10 finish at Martinsville and Brad Keselowski, who returns with a new team, the No.22 Discount Tire Dodge with Penske Racing. ʺI’ve never been to the track before, this will be my first time,ʺ said Carmichael. ʺBut it looks like a cool track in a cool city. I have a good attitude going in to it, and Nashville is a place where I have a good fan base. I hope I can run well in front of them. I really like concrete tracks, like Dover. It’s a change of pace and something different.ʺ  Keselowski announced recently that he will be entering the Friday, April 2 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event in Nashville in the No. 29 entry from Brad Keselowski Racing. “It will be fun running in both series, and I am looking to get my first win with Penske Racing’s NASCAR Nationwide Series program,” he said. “I already have one guitar,” said Keselowski. “One is great. Two would be better.”
Nashville Superspeedway is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, so making the Spring race a double header by adding the NCWTS event (from Memphis) to the NNS race makes for a great kickoff.  It’s no secret that the stand alone non cup events are hurting even more from the economy, so any efforts to bolster attendance should be expected.  The ability of the average blue collar Joe to afford to take the family to Bristol, Daytona or Charlotte, like they used to is getting more difficult so many are looking for alternatives for their at track racing needs.
With all of this in mind, it seems that the folks at Nashville have decided to enlist some help to pull off a racer’s deal for the weekend, in hopes of filling the stands that were less than sold out last year.  Title sponsors, Camping World and Nationwide are joining together to put on a free Fan Fest on Thursday night at the Nashville Camping World location.  Serving as a mini Sprint Experience’, they are bringing more than a dozen drivers from the two Series for autographs, interactive displays, prizes, giveaways and other features to ramp up the fan excitement for the race weekend.
They know that not all the fans can make it to Nashville on Thursday, so Friday afternoon, they will have more than 20 drivers in the Vendor area at the track for autographs. On Saturday, On Pit Road will be teaming up with Nationwide, NASCAR and Nashville Superspeedway for the latest addition to fan participation at the tracks, a ’Tweetup’ after NNS qualifying, with surprise driver appearances as well as prizes.
The promotions don’t stop at the Series title Sponsors when it comes to Nashville.  I look at Nashville Superspeedway as kind of my co-hometown track, shared with Bristol, as I live between the two tracks.  With that in mind, I had the opportunity recently to meet with the folks from the Speedway as well as Pepsi and Sav-a-lot stores recently. “We’re proud to celebrate our 10th anniversary at Nashville Superspeedway,” said Cliff Hawks, vice president and general manager of Nashville Superspeedway. “It’s been our goal to make Nashville one of the most fan friendly venues in the sport and the racing is always competitive. Sam Bass has created a colorful logo that will commemorate the track’s special anniversary in style, and we can’t wait to drop the green flag this April.”
Pepsi of Nashville has joined with Pizza Hut and 30 Sav-a-lot stores in Tennessee to offer ticket discounts for fans by purchasing discounted tickets at select Sav-a-lot stores, redeeming Pepsi Cans for discounts at the track, or obtaining a discount ‘code’ from participating Tennessee Pizza Huts to use on phone in ticket orders. The ‘all access’ pass which debuted at Nashville Superspeedway last year will again be available this weekend and a post race concert by Steel Magnolia will be provided by the Speedway’s Pole Qualifying sponsor Dillon Transportation.

Rain at Martinsville, has me thinking about Nashville

By Joe Dunn

It’s early afternoon on Friday, the NCWTS got in both practices and the Cup cars got in their first practice, and the rain is falling with the wind picking up.
As we wait out the rain I have been giving some thought to the off weekend for the Cup teams.  We have seen that the economy is hurting all phases of NASCAR and that was all too apparent last week with empty seats at Bristol Motor Speedway.  I am still confident they will sell out the night race.  So, what to do on the off weekend?  Head on down to Nashville Superspeedway for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series races.
Starting Thursday April 1st, Nashville will host their first ever NASCAR double header weekend, and this could be a pretty good time to get one of the best NASCAR ‘Bang for your Buck’ opportunities. Yes, I did say Thursday, Series Sponsor Camping World is hosting a Fan Fest at their Nashville store Thursday night from 5-8pm.  Driver’s so far scheduled to appear are Jen Jo Cobb, Jason White, Ricky Carmichael and Justin Lofton from the NCWTS.  NNS drivers scheduled include Michael Annett, Trevor Bayne, Colin Braun, Scott Lagassee, Robert Richardson Jr., Scott Riggs, Reed Sorenson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
On Friday, at the track they will have a driver autograph session in front of the grandstand starting about 1PM. No need to register in advance for the autographs, it will be open to all fans. Last year they did this with the NNS race and had about 20 drivers there.  This time it will be both Truck and Nationwide drivers attending.  Last year the track started the ‘All Access’ pass that proved to be a hit with the fans, so it will return next weekend. For those on a budget, and who isn’t anymore, the folks at Nashville Superspeedway have really made the weekend affordable.
They have a weekend package for $99 that includes seats for both days plus the All Access for Saturday, Friday tickets as low as $35 for adults $10 for kids and Saturday as low as $45 and $15. .  If that doesn’t fit your schedule or budget think about this,  with  special promotions through Pepsi-Cola  and Pizza Hut you can get $10 off on up to four reserved tickets. 30 Sav-a-lot stores in Tennessee will have $35 NNS tickets at the Sav-a-lot stores.
Psst, that $10 discount also includes the youth  (age 12 and under) tickets, which for Friday means rows 1-19 for kids are Free!
For all those Twitter folks there will be a Tweetup with @OnPitRoad, @NationwideBecky and a couple of unnamed drivers.  Meet near the Nationwide Insurance stand at 12:15pm Saturday.
Cup qualifying is now officially rained out at Martinsville, but forecast calls for clear skies tomorrow.

Jennifer Jo Cobb, she’s doing NASCAR in a serious way

By Joe Dunn
While all the media frenzy for NASCAR’s first three races was about Danica, another female racer was in the background working on a serious job of making NASCAR her Career.  Jennifer Jo Cobb, at 36 years old has been involved in racing for 19 years, and was at Daytona for both the ARCA race and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, where she is in the running for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year.
Starting out at Lakeside and I-70 Speedway’s in the Kansas City area in 1991  Jennifer began in the NASCAR Grass Roots Beginner program in 4 cylinders. Through the years she worked her way up through the divisions where she ran the Late Model Series full time.  When the Kansas Speedway opened in 2001 with a NASCAR Winston West event and an ARCA race that first weekend, Cobb was there watching.  When the ARCA series returned in 2002, Jennifer found herself behind the wheel of the Roberts- Albright No. O Pontiac where she started 22nd and finished 16th.  It was during that race that she decided that racing a national series was in her future.
In 2004, she managed to land an ARCA ride in a three race deal with Nick-N-Willy’s Take and Bake Pizza in the No. 19 Keith Murt Chevrolet.  She turned that 3 race deal into three top 10 finishes, 9th at Kansas Speedway, her best to date a 7th at Nashville Superspeedway and a 10th at Chicagoland Speedway.  Jennifer finished the 2004 season with her first start in the NASCAR Nationwide Series final race at Homestead-Miami Speedway where a lap 2 crash ended her day.
In addition to her racing duties, Jennifer Jo has worked for the past 6 years with the Richard Petty Driving Experience, doing ‘Ride Along’ programs as well as instructing driver programs. She also works locally in the Kansas city area doing public speaking engagements as well as marketing efforts. In 2006 she formed Driverboutique.com , a woman’s racing apparel company as a partial funding source for her racing program.  Later that was expanded with the development of Drivenmale.com , ‘Driven apparel for those who bleed speed’ which is the male counterpart to Driverboutique.com.
By the end of 2009, with a total of 15 national series races in ARCA, NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races, the decision to go full time in 2010 was made.  With her financial backing in place, she purchased the No. 10 truck from Circle Bar Racing which ran the truck  with driver James Buescher  in 2009.  The existing team, which finished 17th in owners points for 2009 has given Cobb a cushion by being ‘locked in’ for the first few races of the 2010 season.
After a  disastrous lap one crash at Daytona, in the Nextera Energy Resources 250 resulted in a 34th place finish the team headed to Atlanta looking for improvement. The first year operation got behind the 8 ball during opening inspections and failed to ready the truck in time for the first practice session. Cobb spent the second session getting herself accustomed to the fast track that was new to her.
Being her first visit to NASCAR’s fastest track (Atlanta) Cobb didn’t hesitate to seek the advice of veteran drivers  before she took to the track.  “ I got a lot of advice” she told me, “and honestly virtually every driver told me that this track was the scariest one for them. Those pointers did tend to intimidate me before I went out, and missing that first practice session made it even worse.“  After the second practice Cobb was more relaxed, “ I went out being a bit worried, but as the laps went by, I found myself more and more comfortable.  But the run ended before I was able to run out full speed.“ She smiled at this writer and then said, “ This track is like a cute cuddly Pit Bull, it is warm and fuzzy and comfortable, but you know in the back of your mind that it can change and bite you at any moment.“   Once the starting grid for the race was set Cobb approached the E-Z-GO 200 with the idea of running safe and finishing the race.  Unlike  Daytona, this time she accomplished that goal with a 21st place finish.
The No. 10 truck was picked by NASCAR as the ‘random’ truck after the race and taken to NASCAR R&D for chassis inspection with three other trucks.  The series  left Atlanta with a three week hiatus before returning at Martinsville Speedway on March 27th.  Cobb returned to Charlotte with the team as they prepare another truck for that race.  She expressed her concern that the team needed to be better prepared for the next race.
Jennifer is determined to work on her performances for the remainder of the season and is intent on actively challenging for the ROTY title.  She acknowledges that she is behind the pack after two races, but is optimistic about the remaining 23 races.  Working on 2010 in the NASCAR Camping World truck Series while looking ahead to the future keeps Cobb very busy.  In addition to the Trucks, Jennifer is negotiating the purchase of a NASCAR Nationwide Series car to compete in 4 or 5 NNS events for 2010.  She is anxious to begin that run at Nashville Superspeedway, the site of her best finish to date, a 7th in the ARCA series.  It’s unknown if the car will be ready for the April 3rd race or if that will have to wait for June.
Cobb is not shy about her wishes and her expectations, so a full run in the NNS for 2011 is not out of the question.  Her long range goals include entering the NASCAR Sprint Cup series sometime within the next  two to three years.  This girl is the real deal, and although she is not a GoDaddy girl, she does have the looks and that feminine side of her, right down to her superstition of having to wear animal print undies on race day.  Is that really the feminine side or is it really the little kid side of her?  What ever the answer to that question is, Cobb is determined to make a career as a NASCAR driver.  Many woman have attempted to make that break into the ‘Men’s Club’ of NASCAR Sprint Cup racing, but she has a plan to break that barrier and eventually become a full time competitor in NASCAR’s top series.

The Bristol sellout is no more!

By Joe Dunn

For 55 straight races the Bristol Motor Speedway has sold every seat for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races.  That ended today as the ‘official’ NASCAR estimate of 138,000 fell far short of the 160,000 seats available.
The really sad part is that other estimates pegged the crowd at more in the area of 115,000 fans in attendance, that means up to 45,000 empty seats.  For over 27 years, the Cup races sold out, during some of the past years the sellout occurred prior to the end of the previous race season. This was the track where folks would wait in the rain, or stay on phone lines for hours every November when what seats were left over, after ticket renewals, went on sale.  The first year they did that sale on the website, the internet was crashed over a nine state region.  Other years, the entire 423 area code went off line from an overload.  Although BMS always had a policy against reselling of tickets, folks started selling worthless momentous on eBay for outrageous prices because the purchaser would get free Bristol Tickets.  In some years, that even went to include season ticket renewal rights.  Worthless pins, worn out t shirts and even ripped and stained race programs went for thousands of dollars, to those desperate to get a seat at the Mecca of NASCAR racing.
For the last two years, the track began extending the payment deadline and instituted payment plans to retain season ticket holders.  In 2009, the track sent a van around to the parking lots of Food City grocery stores throughout a three state region in a last ditch effort to sell every ticket to the Food City 500.  Food City themselves, as well as other local business bought up tickets and donated them all to insure the sellout continued.  This year, those efforts were not undertaken, and I have not heard an explanation of why.   Perhaps the fact that  Track President Jeff Byrd was not around as he battles a medical issue, contributed.  It was the first race he has missed since he has been there.  Like Eddie Gossage at Texas Motor Speedway and Humpy Wheeler, who headed Charlotte Motor Speedway for decades, Jeff is an outstanding promoter.   When Jeff announced that he would be absent this time, no replacement was appointed, as Jeff always said, he has the best folks in the world on his staff, and everything went off well for the races.  So that may have been a factor, but I believe that it is bigger than that.
Obviously the economy has taken a huge hit over the past two years and the effect is evident at most of the races, but this was the wake up call.  Last year, as the track struggled to squeeze every last ticket sale out, the other folks surrounding the track seemed to ignore the problem.  Or perhaps, they just figured that it was only the tracks responsibility to suck it up in hard times.  As I watched the race today and saw all the empty seats, when the occasional aerial views were shown, the massive green areas of empty campsites could also be seen, I could see the local impact.  A review of the campgrounds, after all Bristol is mainly a camping track, showed no give on their part.  No reduced rates, no extra specials, no huge improvements.  I can remember back to 10 years ago and what it cost to camp at Bristol then, and look at the cost today shaking my head.
Here, to the best of my recollection is where the rates have gone.  In 2001, Earhart Campground was about $60 for the week, this year the rate is $200 with virtually no changes.  All American Campground was the big dollar site at $100, they have leveled many sites and made improvements, even added sites with water & electric, but the bare site for a camper is now $260 and sites with water and electric run $520.  The Red Barn, another one next to the track  was about $90, now it is $200 and one infuriated camper told me today that they suddenly started charging extra for showers in what used to be the free shower area. Across from the drag strip, Farmer Bob’s was $60 and now is up to $140 for a basic camper site.  They have made improvements over the years and do have some cheaper tent sites.  Bill Gaines Bristol Campground was $60 and is now $160, they have however made huge improvements over the years, adding hard surfaced roadbeds every year, installing lighting throughout the campground and bringing in a portable shower house that is probably the cleanest in the area.
A check of local hotels and motels shows that they don’t think the fans need a break at all.  What were $100 a night rooms 10 years ago are now $350-$500 a night rooms.  During non race weekend, these of course are about $50 a night rooms. This time as a last minute call to go, left me in a lurch, I considered myself lucky to get what should normally be a $25 room for $160 a night.  And no, I would not have taken my wife to that place either.
I hope that some of the folks in the Tri-Cities area take the time to read this, perhaps with the weekends dismal attendance numbers it will serve as a wake up call to the area.  Perhaps the city of Bristol should reconsider their pilfering of race fans with ’Hotel’ tax they added to campgrounds a few years ago.  A $140 campsite has $20 in state and local taxes added to the price.  Jeff Byrd has always emphasized that BMS is and should be Fan Friendly, perhaps it is time that the local government, business’ and folks tried doing the same.
NASCAR announced early this year that the race purses would be cut 10% because of the bad economy, according to some team owners, the actual cuts are much more than 10%.  Maybe it’s time for the tracks to consider cutting ticket  and concession prices at least 10%  and for the local vendors to do the same.  Were you there this weekend, or are you one of those regulars that skipped Bristol this time?  If so, please add your comments and suggestions.  I will make sure that the folks in Bristol hear what you have to say.

Scott Wimmer returns to JRM for Bristol NNS race

By Roger Faulkner

Announced last year that Danica Patrick would be running a limited schedule in a JR Motorsports car in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with GO DADDY.COM sponsorship, there were no plans to run additional races.
Now that plan seems to have changed and the #7 car has been entered for the Scott’s Turf Builder 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. Veteran driver Scott Wimmer has been signed to drive the unsponsored JRM #7 Chevrolet at Bristol and Nashville. With Danica not scheduled to be back in the car until June, they have not said who else may drive the car in the meantime.
Wimmer is an established driver in the NNS and when in good equipment he is a driver capable of getting and keeping the car in the top 30 in points. Remember that Danica and the #7 car were locked in the top 30 for her first three starts, but sitting at 35th she would be required to qualify on speed when she returns. Even lacking sponsorship, and Mike Davis (JRM PR Rep) has confirmed that they do not have any sponsorship at this time, the benefits of a guaranteed starting spot for Danica means big $$ from GoDaddy.com.
Signing Wimmer to drive the next few races looks to be a pretty smart call for JRM as he has a solid record with the upcoming schedule. Scott has 13 NNS starts at Bristol with three top 5’s, six top 10’s and an average finish of 14th. That kind of finish can push the team back into the top 30. Next up will be Nashville Superspeedway where Scott has 11 starts with One win, four top 5’s and 8 top 10’s with an average finish of 12th.
The fact that Scott Wimmer is heading into the fourth race of the NNS season without a full time ride is a sign of the economic times effecting the series. He attempted 27 races for Curtis Key in the #40 car last year, but Mike Bliss has that ride this year. When the #40 car was not racing last year, Wimmer drove 6 races for JRM in the #5 car and had two top 10 finishes. So, he is not new to JRM and they know that he is capable of doing what they need. But all of this just highlights the impact sponsorship, or the lack of it has had on NASCAR’s second tier series.

After a week off NASCAR Thunders into the Valley

By Joe Dunn

Well, wasn’t that exciting, a weekend of No NASCAR!  For those desperate for the roar of the engines and the thrill of the chase, they were surely left wanting.  The diehard race fans were split between the rain soaked NHRA Tire Kingdom Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL, or the rain filled and boring IZOD Indycar race at Soa Paulo, Brazil.
Some true stock car fans of course headed to the opening of the old Hickory Motor Speedway.  You know, that storied old NASCAR track, rich in history, that was left to sit and waste when NASCAR said they were done with it.  NSCS driver Max Papis was the biggest name in the UARA-STARS 150 Late Model race, but a broken shock early in the race left him 24 laps behind, finishing 20th,  The winner of the race was another familiar name to NASCAR fans, Shane Huffman who is best recognized as the 2007 driver of the NNS 88 NAVY Chevrolet of JR Motorsports.
Already race fans are flocking to the Thunder Valley, as campers were lined up on the side of US 11 as early as last week, waiting to get those coveted campsites close to the track.  Weather wise, the weekend doesn’t look bad for racing, but expect similar temperatures to what we had two weeks ago in Atlanta.  Overnight lows will be in the high 30’s to low 40’s and daytime highs in the low 60’s.  But you know how unpredictable the weather can be. You twitter folks, better follow NASCAR_WXMAN for all the latest weather updates.
So, the temps will be cool, but what about the drivers?  Fans are all curious to see if Brad Keselowski takes a run at Cousin Carl, or if the visit to the NASCAR hauler will cool down the attitudes.  The other big story, of course will be the Top 35.  As we head to Bristol, this will be the last race to use the 2009 points, and some big names are awful close to being shut out, while others are a big surprise up front. The big flip at Atlanta did more than wreck Keselowski’s day, it added to a disappointing start to the season, one that has him headed to Bristol 33rd in owners points just 19 points ahead of 36th.  He is joined down there by Ryan Newman, whose #39 SHR Chevy is 29, while the RFR #6 of David Ragan sits 27th.
To really get the noggin scratchin’, Paul Menard in the #98 Ford under the RPM banner is an astounding 9th while Scott Speed, who never cracked the top 35 lap year in the #82 Red Bull Toyota is 12th.  Those guys have got to be jumping like the ole Mexican beans by now. After what looked like the beginning of another horrendous season, Dale Earnhardt Jr heads into week five 13th in the owner standings.  Other noteworthy points positions are Carl Edwards in 20th, Denny Hamlin in 22nd and Daytona 500 winner Jamie McMurray, who has slid back to 19th.
So for the fans looking for some Rock em sock em driving at Bristol, you might not see a lot of action out of Brad Keselowski or Carl Edwards as they fight to get their points back up to contending status.  Of course, over in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, it is Carl Edwards leading the points with Brad Keselowski 41 points back in second.  An argument could be made that they can afford to mix it up in this race, but the series has a lot harder time getting and keeping sponsors.  That combined with the lower purses and the high cost of equipment may keep them cool there too.  Tune in Saturday afternoon to see what the verdict will be on that one.  Other drivers to be noteworthy in the NNS standing would be Justin Allgaier 4th, Steven Wallace 6th and Paul Menard  9th.  Some of the surprises so far in the series would be rookie James Buescher in 11th, and Knoxville, Tennessee’s, a Bristol hometown favorite, Trevor Bayne 13th.  Remember, these guys, the NNS regulars have been off since Las Vegas, that was three weeks ago, you know they will be hungry to mix it up. This may be the best race of the weekend.

Strike Two

By Terri Ketterman
http://www.darlingtonchick.com/

I'm an Edwards fan, and have been since 2006. We had a house full of Canadian friends for the October races when my dad got the "this is not a drill" call for his lung transplant. I went to Manhattan to be with my family, and my husband stayed behind to host our friends who had chosen to spend their annual vacation with us. Knowing that my dad was a big Edwards fan, my husband stood in line with his arms full of goodies to be signed. At the time, we had no idea whether my dad would survive this extremely complicated process to ever enjoy the hat, photo and die-cast. When Edwards heard my husband's story of who the items were for, he stopped chatting and joking with the crowd and focused solely on my husband, having a real conversation with him for a few minutes about my dad. Edwards showed one of his fans, my dad, some serious respect with those few minutes.
Concrete Carl used to be a term of endearment referencing Edwards' proficiency on concrete tracks like Bristol and Dover. What I'm realizing now is the nickname has another meaning as well, referencing the gray matter between his ears.
I was a little freaked out about the Kenseth thing at Martinsville; however, I don't walk around with huge levels of testosterone in my body, and I don't do my job in front of millions of people each week. It seemed beyond bizarre, but, despite the media frenzy that occurs when this type of thing happens, there's always a couple of angles to the truth that the public doesn't hear. I'm a loyal person, and I stayed true, but it was duly noted: Strike One.
The incident early in the race this past Sunday was mostly Edwards' own doing. Replays made that clear. Lost in all the debate is one point I'd like to make: what Keselowski did not have from Carl (or would not have from several other drivers that could have easily been in Carl's shoes on Sunday) is the benefit of the doubt. Keselowski didn't have the benefit of the doubt because so far he has revealed himself to be essentially unworthy of it. If it had been a different driver, one who races a little cleaner, one who gives a little slack when it's called for, Edwards might have shrugged it off, or at least made an effort to find out exactly what happened while he sat on a tire in the garage watching his guys fix his car. Obviously he didn't use any of that time to cool off or think through the ramifications of the revenge he was plotting. The concrete was set, you might say.
I am not a Keselowski fan per se, but I do not like these nasty wrecks, and vividly remember the heartbreak of Adam, Dale, Tony and Kenny. No matter who it is, it's scary to me and I sit and wait for the window net to go down or some grunting on the radio. Of course, Edwards did not mean to flip him, and we all know that if the 12 car had just gone sliding through the grass and created some serious divots on the race logo, the likelihood is there would be no uproar, at least from those not paying attention closely.
One thing about wearing grown up pants is learning from your mistakes, and this is a great opportunity to do that. Another is realizing that sometimes the actions you take have unexpected or unintended consequences. That a winged COT tagged from the rear at a high speed flipped end over end in the air and smashed roof down on the pavement is not, after Newman's wreck last year, what I would call unexpected. Carl, on behalf of Edwards nation, which includes numerous friends and family, let me point out another an unintended consequence of your behavior on Sunday, which I don't think your concrete gray matter allowed for:

NASCAR made the RIGHT call!!!

By Joe Dunn

On Tuesday, Mike Helton announced the official action against Carl Edwards for the incident between the No. 99 Scott’s Ford of Edwards and the No.12 Flo TV Dodge of Brad Keselowski in the Kobalt Tolls 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The penalty to Edwards, parked for the remainder of the race Sunday followed by a 3 race probation.
Some of my fellow writers and of course the Brad K fans are in an uproar over this ‘slap on the wrist’ in response to what was a horrific incident. Some have predicted this to be a signal for all out havoc and permission for some very aggressive and dangerous acts by the drivers. Drivers who have been the recipient of much harsher penalties in the past such as Robbie Gordon and Kevin Harvick are crying foul. But those penalties were under far different circumstances. Those occurred during a time when NASCAR was flexing their all encompassing power over the drivers and the Series.
NASCAR disposed of that POWER before the beginning of the 2010 season after listening to the Fans and the drivers. Yes, that was the turning point, when Mike Helton and other NASCAR folks told the drivers to ’Have at it boys’, they told the fans that they heard the call for old style rougher driving. To come down with a heavy hand now would have made them look disingenuous when they said they were listening to the fans. This incident shouldn’t be about Carl turning Brad, but about WHY the 12 car went airborne, and Helton says that is their priority. That was a very good call on NASCAR’s part.
I disagree that this call by NASCAR will result in more serious incidents, in fact, I think it will reduce them. This call should have sent a loud and clear message to over aggressive driving by drivers trying to make a name, overdriving their own talents. It’s a signal that those who want to play the ’Bully’ on the track can no longer expect NASCAR to protect them. That when they punt another driver, they better be watching over their shoulder for the rest of the race. That really spells out to, think very carefully about what might happen if you dump a driver to improve your position. I believe NASCAR’s call on this is a vision to cleaner driving by the less talented.
This call appears to be a direct message to Brad Keselowski, without ever mentioning his name. It is clearly telling Brad, that if he keeps letting overly aggressive driving take the place of what he lacks in talent and experience, he must face the consequences. If you have watched Brad last year in the Nationwide and the Cup series you could see the pattern. He launched himself to the front of the field on many occasions by attempting to take out the driver’s that he could not out drive. Most notably of those were Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin.
Agree with me or disagree, you make the call. This is my story and I’m sticking to it. Your comments, both positive or negative are more than welcome may be left below. I look forward to the fan’s call on this one.

Nascar gave themselves the Carl & Brad headache

By Roger Faulkner

Brad Keselowski has crossed paths with a number of drivers over the past year, and he began displaying an aggressive style that was missing in his first season with JR Motorsports. He showed a determination to be a front runner and he began serving notice on the Cup guys that were putting him in the shadows in the NASCAR Nationwide series.
Most folks paid little attention to Brad with the exception of the Junior Nation, but that was merely because he was looked upon as part of Junior’s stable. When he began running some races for James Finch in the Sprint Cup Series in Hendrick provided cars, it looked to many that he was about to follow in Dale Jr.‘s footsteps, sort of Dale’s protégé. So when Brad got the unexpected run on the final laps at Talladega, it was an eye opener for everyone, including Brad. Surely that idea of not wanting to let the Big guys intimidate him came to life in that final lap, as he held his line and refused to give to Carl Edwards. The result was a first Cup win for Brad and one of the most horrific looking crashes in NASCAR since the Geoff Bodine fireball wreck at Daytona in the truck Series race in 2000. Nothing will ever compare to that one, but Talladega for Edwards was the modern day version.
Back to the Nationwide Series, Brad had his share of run ins with many driver’s and as the season wore down, so did his chances for a future Hendrick ride in the Sprint Cup Series. After that he became even more aggressive, which paid off by getting the attention of the folks at Penske Racing. Penske of course was not real happy with the success, or lack of it in their #12 car, since Ryan Newman had left for Stewart Haas Racing. David Stremme was not performing at an acceptable level and being 31st in points after Talladega, they opted for Keselowski, not waiting for Stremme to finish the season.
The win at the spring Talladega Cup race was of course the big event of the year for Brad, but he got more notice from the fans and NASCAR in the Nationwide race at Phoenix where he and Denny Hamlin tangled fiercely enough for NASCAR to summon both of them to the hauler. After that meeting, Hamlin promised to retaliate in the nationwide race at Homestead and that is just what he did. The season came to an end with NASCAR taking no action toward either driver.
So, the handwriting was on the wall, it was up to the drivers to settle these things. Then as the 2010 season was about to begin, NASCAR announced that they were going to let the drivers, ’have at it’ and to handle things among themselves. Edwards felt that Keselowski was directly and intentionally responsible for his wreck early in the race. That wreck sent the 99 car to the garage for about 100 laps, and Edwards didn’t see NASCAR addressing the situation. When he finally returned to the track, Carl obviously decided to ’have at it’ and he chased down Kieslowski. Was this a racing incident, an accident? Even ray Charles could see that it was a deliberate and intention move on the part of Edwards. Did he intend the contact to result in a wreck resembling his ride last year at Talladega? I don’t believe he did, I believe that he wanted to inflict damage to the 12 car, to maybe even end his day, but not what happened.
As for Brad’s comments after the race about how some race fans could have been hurt because of this, well, none were this time, but Fans were hurt when he wrecked Edwards last year. It seems to me that NASCAR allowed this tension to brew and chose to look the other way. So for them to honestly take any further actions against Edwards they will need to issue some kind of sanctions against Keselowski also. Should they go that route, it will open a whole ‘nother can of worms for all of NASCAR. All I can say is, I’m sure glad I don’t have to make that call.

Brad’s not calling Carl, Cousin

By Joe Dunn

I though about starting this story with all the background info, but if you’re reading this you already know most of it. Brad wrecks Carl, Brad wrecks Denny, Denny wrecks Brad and Carl wrecks Brad. Add in a few other drivers and a few more incidents and you have the story leading up to Sunday.
Everyone has their opinions and everyone has their suggestions but in the end it is the higher ups at NASCAR to make the call and they won’t announce that, if anything for a few days. Speaking of opinions, here are a few from folks you may or may not know.
Michael Waltrip, “Denny Hamlin and Carl both spun Brad on the straight(away). The results were quite different, but the intent(ion) was the same.” Kenny Bruce from Scene Daily.com “NASCAR needs to ignore the severity and rule on the act, Was parking Carl sufficient?” Kyle Petty had a much different view and opinion. “That was a blatant, flagrant foul. He (Carl) ought to be parked. (the) Ball is in NASCAR’s court, we are going to see if they’ve got a pair.” “This is a black-eye on NASCAR, He (Carl) shouldn’t show up at Bristol.”
After the incident, Carl was Black Fagged, sent to the garage and had to report to the NASCAR Office. His stay in the office was short, after which he headed straight for the gate, not wanting to answer too many questions. Post race comments by NASCAR came in the form of a short press conference by Vice-President of Competition Robin Pemberton. His response to what NASCAR’s take on the situation was pretty clear, well clear as mud that is. “It looked like it could have been a payback from the No.99 on the No. 12. We talked with Carl after the race and we have an understanding about it and we will talk internally again as a group Monday or Tuesday of this week and make a decision on if there will be any other actions that we will take.” When asked what options they have, he responded, “I’m not going to speculate at this time. We parked the 99, we reacted to what happened on the race track and we’ll go back and discuss it further.”
Carl posted his explanation for the incident on his Facebook page, here is what he said, “My options: Considering that Brad wrecks me with no regard for anyone’s safety or hard work, should I: A-Keep letting him wreck me? B-Confront him after the race? C-Wait til bristol and collect other cars? or D-Take care of it now? I want to be clear that I was surprised at his flight and very relieved when he walked away. Every person has to decide what code they want to live by and hopefully this explains mine.”
After being released from the infield care center, Brad’s comment was , “Yeah, I’m OK….” and later “He cut down on me on a restart and I lifted. I couldn’t lift fast enough for him. I lifted for him to let him in, but I was there. I don’t know what more you can do…car is low…that’s what they say. So I was underneath him, tried to cut him a break. It was too late though, he turned down. I apologized to him but there was nothing that I could do in that situation. To come back and intentionally wreck someone, that’s not cool. You could have killed someone in the grandstands. I know that it’s a little ironic that it’s got me saying that, but at least I didn’t do it intentionally when it happened.”
So there are a bunch of opinions, and of course I have one too. Brad made a real name for himself last year in the Nationwide Series as a very rough driver. He initiated a lot of contact with other drivers, most the Cup regulars running in the lower series. I thought it was pretty evident that he was sending a message to the big boys. He made that intention pretty clear to Denny Hamlin at the fall race at Phoenix. After that race, NASCAR met with both drivers to supposedly ‘read them the riot act”, but Hamlin came right and said that he would wreck Keselowski at Homestead, and he did just that. The follow up to that by NASCAR was silence. That sent a message to Brad and the rest of the drivers that it was up to them to settle it on the track. And on the track is where NASCAR wants them settled. If your not sure about that, ask Jimmy Spencer, who was actually suspended by NASCAR for leaning in the window and slapping Kurt Busch’s helmet after Kurt announced on the radio that we was going to wreck Spencer, just moments before he did it at Michigan. Kurt received no sanctions for the incident.
My call on this, NASCAR already took the action they are going to take. Brad will skip by again, but maybe Carl made a point with him. I have heard a few fans comparing Brad to Dale Earnhardt Sr. which in my opinion is like comparing a poodle to a pit bull, no way Jose!
OK, that’s all the takes I have on til NASCAR makes their call, if they make one at all. Tell us your opinion by commenting below.

Kurt Busch claims a wild a wooly Kobalt Tools 500

By Joe Dunn

On a beautiful sunny Sunday in Hampton, Ga, Dale Earnhardt Jr took the green flag to start the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt Tools 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. But that lead would fall to Kyle Busch by the time they got back to the line.
Robbie Gordon’s day ended only four laps into the race when a flat tire put him into the wall. Carl Edwards suffered extensive damage after a tap by Brad Keselowski sent the 99 Aflac Ford up into the 20 Home Depot Toyota of Joey Logano. Logano was able to get service and remain on the lead lap, but for Edwards it would be a long afternoon in the garage.
It became evident early in the .race that the new Goodyear tire was not living up to expectations. Goodyear began dismissing the early tire failures to punctures, but on Kyle Busch’s situation, they insisted it was because of excessive camber. By 200 laps into the race, it seemed that all of the teams were dismissing Goodyear’s take on the tire. The tire wear was excessive throughout the race, but most would agree that the old track surface, that nobody wants replace is very coarse, which leads to tire wear.
By lap 250 it was clearly not a Hendrick day, except of course for Jimmie Johnson who was running third. The other three HMS cars were running 23rd, Mark Martin 1 lap down, 30th Jeff Gordon and 31st Dale Earnhardt Jr, both 2 laps down.
The eight caution of the day came out on lap 288 sending all the leaders to the pits. Jimmie Johnson loses several spots after overshooting his pit stall. When another caution waves on lap 293 Knaus calls Johnson back in for work on the right front. The tire taken off on the previous stop showed damage to the inside. On a previous caution, Johnson had driven up the track and into Ryan Newman, that apparently caused damage to the fender brace which began cutting the tire. Johnson returned to the track 18th.
With three laps to go, Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski made contact near the start/finish line turning the 12 car that then went airborne and rolled side over side. That of course ended Keselowski’s day and NASCAR parked Edwards for the remainder of the day and called for him to the NASCAR hauler. Carl’s comment was “I didn’t mean for him to go airborne.” after a brief visit in the NASCAR ‘office’ Carl was last seen heading out the gate.
On the restart on lap 332 Jamie McMurray gets loose in turn 4 as numerous cars are involved, bringing out the 11th caution of the day and setting up the second Green/White/Checker attempt..
The final restart on lap 340 go clear all the way as Kurt Busch ran away from the field looking like he was out there by himself doing qualifying laps. Busch easily cruised to the checkered flag to take the win. Matt Kenseth finished a strong second, followed by Juan Montoya third, with Kasey Kahne and Paul Menard rounding out the top five. The sixth through tenth place finishers were A.J. Allmendinger, Brian Vickers, Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick and Scott Speed.
The win moves Kurt Busch up 9 position to 10th in the points. Kevin Harvick continues to lead the points, followed by Matt Kenseth, (up 2 spots), Greg Biffle third, (up 3 spots), Jimmie Johnson , (who finished 12th moves up one spot) 4th. Clint Bowyer dropped 3 spots to 5th. Rounding out the top ten in points are Jeff Burton 6th, Mark Martin 7th, Tony Stewart 8th, Paul Menard 9th and Kurt Busch.

Kurt Busch set to enter the NHRA Gator Nationals

By Joe Dunn

Over the weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway Kurt Busch announced that he will venture into his first attempt at drag racing, this week, an off week for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, at the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville, Florida. The car he will enter in Super Gas Sportsman class, is a 1970 Dodge Challenger.
Kurt spoke of his first real exposure to drag racing was in the 1990’s when he met a pair of Las Vegas based NHRA racers, George Marnell, a pro Stock racer and Dave Bush, a Super Stock competitor. While driving for Penske Kurt also got to know NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon, as both were sponsored by Miller Lite.
He got the idea to compete in an NHRA event after he took part in the opening of the Z Max Dragway at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in September of 2008. He let a friend run his Dodge Viper down the strip and burned out the clutch before the run was finished. “That was when I got the bug.” said Kurt, “ I made the decision to try it, so I attended the Roy Hill drag racing school. I learned a lot about saving hundreds and thousands of a second. That experience actually had an impact on my Cup driving as I found a new appreciation for those hundreds of a second and was able to apply that on the track.”
The drag racing project has been about a year and a half in the making. The project began with the purchase of a 1970 Dodge Challenger off an eBay auction, from a party in Nebraska. “The guy we bought the car from didn’t know that I bought the car, because we did nit all in the name of my new Drag crew chief, Jessie Walker. Jessie has been with me for a long time, he worked with me when I ran the old Southwest Tour Series.” Kurt remarked “We had to cut out the floor pans because they were rusted too bad.”
The car had the original 340 cu in engine when they got the car, but that has been replaced with a Mopar 427 Crate motor. The car is fuel injected and a turbo has been installed, giving the car about 1200 HP and about 1000 foot pounds of torque. At 3200 lbs the car has run 138 mph in the 1/8 mile in testing.
When asked about who would be racing this car Kurt responded “ I will be the only person to race this car” when Danica Patrick’s name was mentioned as a driver his response laughingly was “ This car doesn’t have enough down force for Danica, and like I said, only I will drive it.”
The Tire Kingdom NHRA Gator Nationals has been the site of many of NHRA’s most compelling moments and the track where some of the most important performance barriers in the history of NHRA were broken, including most importantly Kenny Bernstein’s legendary 300 mph pass which took place in 1992.

Happy Harvick claims the win at AMS

By Joe Dunn

Ron Hornaday led the field to the green flag in Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, E-Z GO 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but it was Matt Crafton that had the lead when the field came back to the line. It was contact between Hornaday and Kyle Busch that allowed Crafton to move past. By lap 11 Hornaday managed to regain the lead, but after some fierce fighting to hold the lead, he was forced to relinquish that to Busch on lap 12. By lap 15, Kevin Harvick was able to motor passed Busch for the lead.
That first lap rubbing with Busch, proved to be the undoing of the day for Hornaday as the 33 Longhorn Chevrolet finally had a tire let loose, crashing into the wall in turn 4 on lap 24, bringing out the first caution. The damage to the 33 Longhorn Chevrolet was enough to bring Hornaday’s day to an end.
Harvick held the lead through a caution for debris on lap 54. After the green flag once again waived, Todd Bodine was able to snatch the lead on lap 59, only to lose it to Busch on the next lap. On lap 62, Todd Bodine get together with Matt Crafton in turn two, bringing out the third caution.. The damage to Crafton’s truck sent him to the garage while Bodine was able to pit for repairs.
Following the green flag on lap 64,, Steven Wallace was able to take the lead for three laps, before Kyle Busch once again took over. One lap later, Crafton, who had returned to the track was once again involved in a wreck in turn two bringing out the 4th caution of the race. By lap 75, Kevin Harvick motored his way past Busch to take the lead for the last time.
On lap 77 the #7 of Justin Lofton tangled with 93 of Shane Sieg on the backstretch for the fifth caution. On lap 113, a caution for debris tightened up the field for the finish.
When the checkered flag was dropped on lap 130 it was Kevin Harvick taking the win with Kyle Busch second and Aric Almirola third. Steve Wallace, Todd Bodine and Ricky Carmichael rounded out the top five. Austin Dillon redeemed himself from his first lap crash at Daytona by finishing 10th, the top finishing rookie.
Other notable finishers were rookie Jennifer Jo Cobb 21st and Geoff Bodine 26th.
The unofficial 2010 drivers points for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, after two races has Todd Bodine the leader with Timothy Peters second, Jason White third, Aric Almirola fourth and Stacy Compton fifth, 104 points out of the lead..

Ron Hornaday sweeps the Pole at AMS

By Joe Dunn

As 38 trucks attempted to qualify for the EZ-Go 200, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, it was Matt Crafton in the 88 Australian Gold/Menards Chevrolet, setting the early quick time at 31.317 for 177.028 mph. That time didn’t stand up too long when reigning Series champion Ron Hornaday in the 33 Longhorn Chevrolet, circled the track at 177.721 mph for a time of 31.95. It looked to be a lock for Hornaday when the go or go home trucks took the field, but of course he still had to worry about the 18 Toyota Tundra Toyota of Kyle Busch.’ Going out 34th Busch soared up the board to second with a time of 31.268 for 177.305, but that was the best he could get, moving Crafton to third and making the mark for Hornaday stand.
Among the real surprises was the 30th truck to attempt as 60 year old, Geoff Bodine powered the Team Gill Racing,/ Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project to an 8th place starting position with a 175.682 mph lap. Missing the race was the 01 Koma Unwind Drink Chevrolet of Carl Long and the 87 D.W. Campbell Tire Chevrolet of Chris Jones. NCWTS, Raybestos Rookie of the year candidates, Austin Dillon, in the 3 RCR/ Bass Pro Shop Chevrolet starts fifth. Justin Lofton, in the 7 Visitpit.com Toyota rolls off 22nd, while Jennifer Jo Cobb in the 10 Driven/ JJC Racing Ford starts 31st and Brett Butler in the 47 Fuel Doctor Chevrolet starts 32nd.
The E-Z-GO 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck race takes the green flag at 2:00pm est.

Warming up at Atlanta Motor Speedway!

By Joe Dunn

After three weeks of less than ideal weather for racing, the teams and the fans are happy to be at Atlanta where the skies are clear and the temperatures are in the mid 50’s on Friday afternoon.
The Atlanta Motor Speedway staff is so happy with the weather, track president Ed Clark has called in reinforcements. He’s adding a slew of tickets sellers in anticipation of a strong walk up crowd for the Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race.
Drivers are also talking about the weather and the return to NASCAR’s fastest track. “This is an awesome race track” and exclaimed Clint Bowyer, “ As a race car driver, you look for a race track with multiple grooves. It’s got a lot of fun to race on these older race tracks, slippin’ and slidin’, run high, run low, run in the middle … what ever it takes to find grip, you can do that here.”
Mark Martin was quick to remind fans that “Hendrickcars.com is giving away my uniform from this race and folks can register on line for free.” Back to the racing, Martin gave credit to Goodyear for bringing a tire to Atlanta that is a big improvement over the one they had last year. “The cooler weather is going to be favorable for the cars handling. This multi-groove track just makes for a lot of fun. I can’t wait to get started.” To back this all up, Mark Martin went out for the first practice and recorded the fastest lap.
Just when everyone is getting used to the 50 year old ‘Kid’ Mark Martin making a resurgence in the Cup Series, 60 year old Geoffrey Bodine is here at Atlanta to drive the #95 Dodge for Team Gill Racing in the NASCAT Camping World Truck Series. Lacking a sponsor the team is celebrating Bodine’s part in the United States 4 man Bobsled team’s Gold Medal in this years Olympics. The 95 truck is decked out for the Gold winners as well as the Bo-Dyne Bobsled Project which built the sleds for the winning team. The members of the Olympic team will be on hand at the track this weekend as well as the Woman’s Bronze winning team.
Following Sprint Cup qualifying tonight, the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Series makes their debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway on the short truck in the tri-oval.

Heading to Atlanta with NASCAR’s best weather report this season

By Joe Dunn

With three NASCAR race weekends in the books, it has been a very, very wet season so far. Rains plagued Daytona’s traditional Speed Week resulting in the cancellation of Nationwide Series qualifying.

Then onto California, where the rain again threatened the schedule causing teams to change the way they prepared for qualifying and race setups. The third week we traveled to Las Vegas where rain again reared it’s ugly head as the race was held up again for rain. At Las Vegas the temperatures were exceptionally cold to add more discomfort for fans and competitors alike.

So here we are, just days away from the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and on Tuesday, the Atlanta Airport was on delay for most of the day for snow. Atlanta was not alone, as areas around Charlotte were recording up to 5” of snow. For long time fans of AMS, the thoughts of a snow covered race track were not hard to conjure up.

Forget those worries, because our favorite ‘Unofficial Twitter Meteorologist for NASCAR’, Brian Neudorff of News8 in Rochester, NY ( or as he is better known on twitter NASCAR_WXMAN) says this will be the ‘Best Weather Weekends of the Season’. As Brian tells us “ The storm system that brought snow to Atlanta and then into the Carolinas and a strong area of high pressure will move in. This will give absolute gorgeous weather to the Southeastern US through the end of the week into the weekend” If you slept through a lot of freshman science class that all means that there shouldn’t be any sign of rain this weekend.

So, as I look out my window here in Tennessee at the snow that is left from Tuesday’s hit, I am getting ready to head down I-75 to Hampton, Ga. I know from the above forecast that I shouldn’t need my rain gear, but as Brian’s website forecast shows http://ow.ly/1dBHL , it is still going to be a bit nippy at night, dipping to 25˚ on Saturday night. The daytime highs don’t appear to be much better than Las Vegas, in the high 60’s, but being dry is a huge improvement.

The bottom line folks, is that it will be dry, but don’t forget to pack some warm clothes as it is still winter in these parts. As you already know, the NASCAR Nationwide Series is off this weekend, but if you plan on going early, or if you are already there, Friday evening the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will run a 150 lap race on the quarter mile track on the front stretch. The modifieds are some of the coolest and fastest cars running outside the big three series. On Saturday, for those attending the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series E-Z-Go 200, it will be followed by a Legends Car event with the Thunder Roadster models, on the quarter mile track. Among the entries for the Thunder Roadster’s is none other than NASCAR Champion Bill Elliot.

All in all, this looks to be a good weekend for the race fans, and the last I heard the track still has tickets available, so if you can, load up the car and join us in Atlanta. For all those twitter fans out there, Jeff Gluck has promised another ‘Tweet Up’ at the track, and I will try to be there this time. In the meantime, follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/OnPitRoad

Fast Track to LAME!

By Joe Dunn

Here we are in the midst of a new racing season and SPEEDTV has pulled out all the stoppers. But perhaps they have pulled just one too many as long time race fans tuned into 2010 to find that This Week In NASCAR, a weekly staple is gone. It seems that the powers to be at SPEEDTV made the decision that this long time popular show was just not connecting to the race fans.

As we all awaited the highly touted replacement, billed as Michael Waltrip’s dream show, Fast Track to Fame, the fans could only wonder. Well Monday night came and the Fast Track to Fame made it’s maiden voyage across America’s airwaves. As quickly as they got the first act on the stage, the fans began to cringe. Good old Michael raves about the ‘old guy with the spoons’, but the spoons were drowned out by the off key singer.

As the show progressed, it sadly failed to improve, but instead went steadily down hill. A simple read of some of the tweets on Twitter surely gave the view of NASCAR fan’s and their reaction to the show. “This fast track to fame is trying my patience, was looking for speed, it lacks that. 1 & out” “why dear God why? At least American Idol has produced something. Other than total train wrecks, what have they done” These were just a few, they get better as the show progressed … “some acts were ok, but was looking for the connection to racing. Last time I will watch it” …This is just a sampling, there were hundreds of tweets condemning the show.

I sat through the entire show, hoping that the real talent would be the one up next, maybe they are saving that lone act for the last show. This show is a disaster in the making, it is an insult to the real NASCAR fans. I have liked SPEED for many years as they have progressed from weak to strong and even stronger in the programming. Like many of the fans, I looked forward to 2010 and SPEED continuing to improve on their format and content, but alas, the balloon has popped and Fast track to Fame has disaster written all over it.

It’s time for SPEED to wake up, and get back to actual racing shows for the race fans. Save your network and scrap this show before it’s too late. One comment that really hit the nail on the head came from Twitter member JoshuaBrown18 “not too late to pull a dream sequence on us. Bring TWIN back next week with Biff, MW, Chad and Steve and this never happened.” That pretty well sums it up folks, for those who watched the show, let SPEED know how you feel about this one by going to http://www.speedtv.com/feedback/ and tell them what you think.
