School is out for the summer, but the folks at Crossville Raceway are holding a special class this Friday, May 30th. In their own salute to the Graduates and their classmates, the track has invited ALL students from both CCHS and SMHS to attend the races for FREE. They have asked only that the students present a school ID, report card, 2008 diploma or a class schedule in their name as proof.
To start the summer with school spirit still intact, the track is encouraging the students to ‘show their colors’ and support their driver in a special Exhibition Race just for the schools. Two drivers will compete in a special 5 lap all out race at intermission, as veteran Late Model Sportsman driver, and CCHS Teacher, Brandon Williams will go up against the Hottest young driver in the Pro Street class and SMHS Freshman Jesse Lowe. This is the chance for the students to cheer for their school and get an up close look at local Dirt Track Racing. After the race, the students will be invited to join these drivers on the front stretch and the students of the winning school will pose for a Victory Photo with the winning Driver/Car. For more information, call the track at 456-5000 or check the website at www.crossvilleraceway.net
The Big news in NASCAR is Kasey Kahne, who emerges from Charlotte and Lowes Motor Speedway with a whole new respect. Following a year of disappointment and poor performances, Last week Kahne snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in winning the All Star Race. Sunday night, Kahne took the checkers again, winning Nascar’s longest race, the Coca Cola 600. The win moves Kahne up two spots to number 12 in the points. Kyle Busch finished second and retains the point lead in the Nascar Sprint Cup Series.
